Credit Scene
The next part of my research focuses on credits in film openings, as one of my requirements is to include the production company with logo (no more than 7 seconds), the main actors, the editor, and the production designer. Director of Photography (cinematographer), Producer(s), Writer(s), and Director. The point of these credits is to give credit to the people behind the scenes for the film. Since we will be working on the thriller genre, we will research thriller credit scenes. I want to get an idea of the placement, order, fonts, color design, transitions, and style.
Zodiac
The first credit scene I will discuss is Zodiac (2007). The opening credits are very minimal, with white font placed in dead space throughout the start of the film, establishing the setting and characters. Each credit fades in and out smoothly, as a result not distracting the audience from the visuals.
Gone Girl
For the next credit scene I will review, I choose Gone Girl (2014). Similar to Zodiac, the opening credits are very minimal, with a white font placed in dead space throughout the opening of the film. The white font contrasts against the dark environment, and the fade in and out show that minimalistic credits can still create a suspenseful and cinematic feel.
Fight Club
For the final credit, I will mix it by reviewing Fight Club (1999), which has animated opening credits compared to those that were realistic. Along with being animated, it also emphasizes more action, with credits appearing each time the neurons flash, it rapidly goes from the inside to the outside of the body. Although it's unlikely I will do this for my film opening, it gives me other ideas with the credits, like having them appear during certain moments instead of just fading in and out. Also this credit scene is has a very fast pacing compared to the other two.
For My Credits
For my film opening, I will stick more to the Zodiac and Gone Girl openings, with my credits fading in and out during the dead space of the film. Also, with all of these, they didn't end on credits, which I want to follow, because just saying "if it ends with the film's title" may give the sense that this is the ending instead of the opening.
