Props for our Opening

Props

Props will play an important role in our opening as they can help control suspense and guide the audience's attention. Each object helps the storyline by adding to the tension. We have three main props: the car, the bag, and the personal items.

Each Prop We Plan on Using

First, the car is introduced when it pulls into the parking lot with the three boys inside. The car represents both safety and isolation from the outside. When the characters are inside the car, they feel protected; however, once they leave, they become vulnerable. Also, how common cars are creates a sense of security, which makes the supernatural part of the bag seem even more unsettling. For the car, we will be using my brother's car (Subaru Outback), which he will be driving, as he is a character.

The next item is the bag, one of the most important ones out of them all. The bag is what catches the boy's eyes and is what places them into a trance. The bag carries a supernatural force that puts people into a trance; it affects the boys, creating suspense and building the cliffhanger, which is resolved when the personal items are found on the floor.  For the bag, we will either use my backpack or the duffel bag I have. We will bring both to the film location and decide which one looks the best there.

Lastly, the personal items will include phones, wallets, and keys, which appear  when the fourth friend walks up, adding the finishing touch to the cliffhanger as it leaves the scene on a cliffhanger. If we continued the film, it would be perfect. Like cars, these personal items are so common in people's lives that the bag feels even more unsettling. Also, the scattered personal items symbolize the characters’ disappearance. For personal items, we will use each of the characters, phones, wallets, and keys.

Reflection

I believe these props will effectively help create suspense and support my genre. With the car providing a sense of safety, the bag building suspense, and then the personal items, ensuring a strong cliffhanger. Overall, these props will help tell the story and keep the audience engaged.
