Media Theory Incorporation
One of the things our teacher mentioned to incorporate into our project is a media theory. Now there are many different media theories, but the one we will use is the enigma code from Roland Barthes' narrative codes.

The enigma code is a narrative technique in which a story withholds information to create mystery or leave a plot point unexplained. Instead of having a clear explanation for why things happen, the plot is structured around uncertainty to keep the audience watching. Enigma codes are often used in thrillers and mystery films because they create suspense and engagement through unanswered questions. An example of this is in The Platform, where there was no backstory given on why this society exists. Another example is Midsummer, where the intentions of the cult seem peaceful at first, but it slowly turns disturbing.

How We Will Use It
We will apply the Enigma code in Hollow Point by never revealing what the glowing bag is or what happens to the three friends after they enter the trance, and by having the fourth friend show up. Since the audience isn't shown what is inside the bag and isn't given any explanation of what this trance is, it makes them think of certain things. This can include: Do the questions 'Does the bag have powers?', 'Where did the friends go?' and 'How did the bag get there?' help create a mystery that the audience can watch and understand the full picture.

By using the Enigma code, we can make the audience feel curious, which aligns with our target audience for a psychological/supernatural thriller. The final scene of the fourth friend arriving at an empty car and belongings on the floor, is the major point of the enigma moment. Instead of figuring out what happened, it continues with even more mystery, keeping the audience watching to find the truth behind the bag and the missing characters, which is our exact goal for the film's opening. Making the opening more engaging and effective as a cliffhanger.

Reflection
The Enigma code exactly follows what we will attempt to achieve in our film opening. I believe that with our idea, we can create an effective opening for a psychological/supernatural thriller. We plan to refine our idea through our storyboard and script, allowing us to evaluate everything before filming.
